Single Axial Untied Expansion Joint
Description
These expansion joints are the simplest and most cost-effective type from the complete range. They can absorb purely axial movement. However, they can also be designed to cater to a small amount of lateral and angular movement.
The piping system with untied or unrestrained axial expansion joints should be equipped with adequate fixed, intermediate, and guiding supports for the optimum performance of expansion joints.
Single Axial Tied Expansion Joint
Description
These joints are the simplest in the Expansion joint family. They are usually used for axial movement in straight pipe runs with end connections such as flanges or pipe ends.
It can also absorb deflection in only two directions or planes. In a Restricted Condition (Tied), this joint will control movements and/or resist the pressure thrust.
Universal Untied Expansion Joint
Description
A universal expansion joint consists of two bellow elements connected with a pipe or a spool. These types of expansion joints are used to absorb a large amount of lateral movement. However, they can also be designed for Axial and Angular movements.
The designed lateral movement of the universal expansion joint depends on the length of the centre spool pipe and the centre-to-centre distance between the two bellow elements.
Universal Tied Expansion Joint
Description
Tied or restricted Universal expansion joints are designed to contain the pressure thrust of the piping system. The tie rods can also be designed to limit the movements.
The piping system where Untied or Unrestrained Universal expansion joints are used should be equipped with adequate Fixed, intermediate, and guiding supports for the expansion joint's optimum performance.

Description
A pair of two hinges and a pin or pivot whose axes are perpendicular to each other are connected to a floating gimbaled ring.
The advantage of absorbing pressure thrust, supporting the dead weight of the system, transmitting loads through the gimbaled structure, preventing torsion & reducing forces on the system. They are applied to complex piping systems where proper anchoring & guiding may not be feasible.
